Taxi Windsor: Hawkesbury Cabs, Airport Runs and Maxi Taxis

Windsor is 56 kilometres from the city, on the Hawkesbury, and one of the five towns Governor Macquarie set up in 1810. We drive people around the old town, to the hospital and the station, and all the way to the airport, with the fare fixed before the trip.

  • Thompson Square pickups
  • Tolls and GST included
  • Wheelchair accessible vehicle

A long way from the city, and that's the point

George Street holds Windsor together. Thompson Square and the Macquarie Arms are at the river end, the pedestrian mall has the cafes and the Sunday market, the Deerubbin Centre with the library and regional gallery is at number 300, and McQuade Park is at 361. Most of it is walkable. Getting anywhere else in the Hawkesbury, or back to Sydney, usually is not.

That is where we come in. We collect patients and visitors from Hawkesbury District Hospital on Day Street, people heading five kilometres west to Richmond for the RAAF base or the Western Sydney University campus, and day-trippers who come out for a long lunch and would rather not drive home. Many trips from Windsor are long ones: Penrith, Parramatta and the airport.

Sedans and SUVs take up to four. A maxi taxi seats up to 11, handy for wedding parties at the old churches and homesteads. Our wheelchair accessible taxi can be booked ahead for hospital visits, and we carry pets and parcels. Pay by card, Cabcharge, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash.

A day of Windsor trips

From the first flight to the last train

How a day of Hawkesbury bookings can run, from before dawn to after midnight.

  1. Early morning

    The airport run

Sydney Airport is 70 to 85 minutes away off-peak, down Windsor Road and across on the M7 and M5. For a first flight out, book the night before and we set the pickup time for you.

  2. Daytime

    Appointments and errands

Hawkesbury District Hospital at 2 Day Street, on the corner of Macquarie Street. Also the Hawkesbury Regional Museum on Baker Street, and shopping runs to Richmond.

  3. Evening

    Dinner in the old town

A meal near Thompson Square or a drink at the Macquarie Arms, then a cab home to McGraths Hill, Pitt Town or South Windsor instead of the car.

  4. Late night

    After the last train

Windsor station is on the T1 and T5 lines. If you have missed the last connection home from Blacktown or Parramatta, call us and we come and get you.

Colonial Windsor

Pickup points in one of Australia's oldest towns

Windsor's centre dates back to Macquarie's day, which means narrow old streets, heritage fences and not many places to pull over. These are the stops we use.

Thompson Square

One of the oldest public squares in Australia, bounded by George Street, Bridge Street and The Terrace. The Macquarie Arms, built in 1815, carries a marker showing the height of the 1867 flood. We meet you on George Street by the hotel.

St Matthew's Anglican Church

Francis Greenway's church on Moses Street, consecrated by Samuel Marsden on 8 December 1822. For weddings and funerals, tell us the service time and we wait by the gates.

Windsor Mall

The pedestrian stretch of George Street, with its market every Sunday from 9am to 3pm. Cars cannot drive in, so we pick up from the nearest cross street.

Windsor station

On the Richmond branch, with a brick station building from 1883. Tell us which train you are on and we meet you out the front.

Hawkesbury District Hospital

2 Day Street, on the corner of Macquarie Street. Let us know whether it is a discharge, a visit or an outpatient appointment.

Hawkesbury Regional Museum

Entry from 8 Baker Street, a short walk from Thompson Square. A good first stop for visitors new to the town.

On the Hawkesbury

When the river decides the route

The Hawkesbury is why Windsor is here, and it still shapes how you get around. The new Windsor Bridge opened to traffic on 18 May 2020, carrying cars north across the river towards Wilberforce and the Putty Road.

After heavy rain the river can rise quickly, and low-lying roads around the Hawkesbury close. If the weather is bad, call before you travel. We check which roads are open and plan the trip around them, with the quote agreed first.

  • Same fixed quote at 5am as at 5pm
  • Road closures checked before we set off
  • Booked ahead for flights, appointments and events

Windsor to Sydney Airport

A long run, planned properly

A taxi from Windsor to Sydney Airport takes 70 to 85 minutes off-peak, usually down Windsor Road and onto the M7 and M5. Add time on weekday mornings. For an international flight, leaving about three and a half hours before departure is sensible from here.

Coming home, give us your flight number and we time the pickup to your landing. See our Sydney Airport taxi page for how terminal pickups work.
