Getting around the Hills without a second car

The Hills District was built around the car. Estates in Kellyville and Bella Vista curve away from the main roads, the acreage around Dural is a long way from any station, and plenty of households share one car between two jobs and Saturday sport. A booked taxi fills the gaps.

Silver Sydney Taxi covers the whole Hills District, from Rouse Hill and Box Hill in the north-west down to North Rocks and Winston Hills on the Parramatta side. Book online or call and a licensed driver is assigned to your trip.

Most trips suit a sedan or SUV. For a family heading off on holidays there is the Kia Carnival, or a maxi cab for up to 11 people, and we fit baby seats and boosters on request. Fares do not surge on a rainy school holiday Saturday either.

Sydney Metro train waiting at an elevated station platform
Sydney Metro North West

Home to platform, platform to home

The Metro made the Hills much easier to commute from. Trains run from Tallawong through Castle Hill and Cherrybrook to Epping, then on through Chatswood and under the harbour into the city. The weak point is the stretch between the station and your front door.

Commuter car parks at some stations can fill early on weekdays, and not every estate has a bus that lines up with your train, especially late at night. A short booked taxi between home and the station, first thing in the morning or after a late finish, covers that gap.

When you book, add the station and the entrance or street you will be waiting on in Special Instructions.

Places Hills passengers ask for

Shopping centres, a private hospital, a big business park and a historic farm.

Castle Towers, Castle Hill

The big centre next to Castle Hill station. Tell us which entrance you want and we can collect you again with the shopping, so nobody has to hunt for a park on a Saturday.

Norwest Business Park

Offices along Norwest Boulevard and around the lake. Early client meetings, visitors from the airport and staff heading home late can all go on a corporate account.

Norwest Private Hospital, Bella Vista

Admissions, day procedures and visits. If you have been told not to drive afterwards, book the trip home before you go in, or call us once you know when you will be ready to leave.

Rouse Hill Town Centre

Shops, cinemas and places to eat beside Rouse Hill station. An easy pickup point for a night out when nobody wants to be the driver.

Bella Vista Farm

The historic homestead and parkland on the hill off Norwest Boulevard. Good for family photos, picnics and community events.

Local road knowledge

Motorways, old roads and knock-off time

Getting out of the Hills is mostly about picking the right road for the time of day.

M2 Hills Motorway
The quick way east to Macquarie Park, the Lane Cove Tunnel and the city, and the usual start of an airport run from Castle Hill or Baulkham Hills. It is tolled.
Westlink M7
Runs down the western edge of the district. From Kellyville, Rouse Hill or Box Hill it can be quicker to head south on the M7 than to cut back through Castle Hill, depending on the hour.
Windsor Road
The main line from Baulkham Hills up through Kellyville and Rouse Hill towards Box Hill. Fine off-peak, slow at peak times with its long run of traffic lights.
Old Northern Road
Hills, bends and long rural driveways out through Glenhaven and Dural. For acreage pickups, add the property name, gate code or a landmark to your booking.
Norwest Boulevard
Quiet at ten in the morning, crowded when the business park empties in the late afternoon. For an evening pickup, meeting on a quieter side street off the boulevard often gets you moving sooner.

Heading south instead? Windsor Road and Old Windsor Road lead straight down to Parramatta, and the M2 takes you east to Epping, Ryde and the rest of the Northern Suburbs.

Off-peak estimates

Hills District travel times

Estimated off-peak times by road. Weekday peaks on the M2 and Windsor Road, roadworks and wet weather can add a lot, so allow extra time before a flight.
