Northern Beaches taxi coverage, stretch by stretch

It is around 30 km by road from Manly to Palm Beach, and we cover all of it, plus the suburbs up on the plateau.

Up the coast on Pittwater Road

Nearly everything on the Beaches hangs off one main road. Pittwater Road carries you from Manly past Brookvale, Dee Why and Collaroy to Narrabeen and Mona Vale, and north of Mona Vale, Barrenjoey Road takes over through Newport and Avalon to Palm Beach.

That shape decides how we plan your pickup. A quick hop from Collaroy to Dee Why is easy at almost any hour. A 5am trip from Avalon to the airport needs a proper start time, because there is a long way to go before you even reach the Spit.

The Kia Carnival suits a family on airport transfers with a week of luggage. Groups heading to a wedding or a birthday lunch can take a maxi cab for up to 11 people, and we fit capsules and boosters for anyone booking a taxi with a baby seat.

  1. Manly Manly Wharf and the Corso

Pickups straight off the Circular Quay ferry, dinners along the harbour side and the walk around to Shelly Beach.

  2. Freshwater Surf beach and coastal track

Where Duke Kahanamoku gave his famous surfboard demonstration more than a century ago. The headland walk links it to Curl Curl.

  3. Brookvale Westfield Warringah Mall

The biggest shopping centre on the peninsula, right on Pittwater Road. Good for a big shop, a movie or a school holiday outing when the car park is full.

  4. Dee Why The Strand and the ocean pool

Apartments, cafes and the beachfront. Parking on a summer weekend is scarce, which is exactly when a taxi makes sense.

  5. Collaroy and Narrabeen Long Reef and Narrabeen Lakes

A long run of sand from Long Reef up to the lagoon at Narrabeen, with sports fields and a holiday park beside the lake.

  6. Mona Vale Where Mona Vale Road heads west

The junction for trips inland to Terrey Hills, St Ives and the Upper North Shore.

  7. Newport and Avalon Beach Village shops on Barrenjoey Road

Weekend lunches, school pickups and early starts for the airport.

  8. Palm Beach Barrenjoey Lighthouse and the Pittwater wharf

The end of the road. Walkers heading up to the lighthouse, and ferry passengers crossing Pittwater.

Local road knowledge

Four places Beaches traffic catches people out

There are only a few ways on and off the peninsula.

The Spit Bridge

The bridge opens at set times to let boats through Middle Harbour, and traffic on Spit Road stops while it is up. On a CBD or airport run we allow for it when we set your pickup time instead of hoping to miss it.

Wakehurst Parkway

A handy cut through the bush from Narrabeen to Frenchs Forest and the hospital, but low sections flood and the road can close after heavy rain. When it does, we go the long way via Pittwater Road and Warringah Road.

Pittwater Road through Dee Why

Traffic lights, bus lanes and beach traffic. On a warm Saturday the stretch from Brookvale up to Collaroy moves slowly, so allow extra time for anything with a fixed start.

Mona Vale Road and Warringah Road

The two routes west off the peninsula. Mona Vale Road climbs through Terrey Hills to St Ives and Pymble, and Warringah Road crosses Frenchs Forest to the Roseville Bridge. For Chatswood or the Upper North Shore, these usually beat the Spit.

Travel times from the Beaches

Off-peak estimates by road. Weekday peaks, a Spit Bridge opening or a closed Wakehurst Parkway can add a lot, so leave a buffer for flights and appointments.

Beaches taxi questions, answered

It can. The bridge opens at scheduled times for boats and traffic stops while it is up. When we set your pickup time for an airport or city trip, we allow for it along with the usual traffic on Military Road.
