Getting a taxi in Bankstown

Bankstown's centre is built around the railway line, with North Terrace and South Terrace running along either side. Bankstown Central fills the big block north-east of the station, and it has been there in one form or another since it opened as Bankstown Square in 1966. A short walk north are Paul Keating Park, the library on Rickard Road and the Western Sydney University Bankstown City campus. Chapel Road runs north and south through all of it.

The trains have been the big story. The line east to Sydenham closed in September 2024 so it could be rebuilt for Sydney Metro, and Southwest Link buses have carried people towards Campsie and the city in the meantime. Construction around the station also means temporary changes to where cars can stop. When you book, name a corner or a shopfront and we will find a legal place to stop.

Bankstown is one of the most multicultural suburbs in Australia, with more than 60 languages spoken, and our passengers reflect that. Students heading to the university, families going to the airport, shift workers from the airport business park and patients leaving hospital. Sedans and SUVs carry up to four. Maxi taxis seat up to 11, and we fit baby seats on request.

Pickup notes for Bankstown

The places we are asked to go most, and how to make the pickup quick. Hospital trips come first, because they are the ones where a wrong entrance matters.

Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital sign on a brick wall beside the entry road, with trees behind

Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital

The main entrance on Eldridge Road has a turning bay at the front for pick-ups and drop-offs, and there is ten-minute parking outside the emergency department. A new Bankstown hospital is planned for the TAFE site in the city centre, so this may change in a few years.

Bankstown Central

The bus interchange is at the Jacobs Street entry, which gets crowded. We usually suggest meeting on North Terrace instead, away from the buses.

Bankstown station

With metro works around the station, entrances and kerbs have moved. Tell us if you are on the North Terrace or the South Terrace side.

WSU Bankstown City campus

The tower at 74 Rickard Road. After evening classes, wait out the front on Rickard Road and we will pull in there.

Little Saigon Plaza and Chapel Road

Vietnamese restaurants in and around the plaza off Chapel Road. For a group heading home after dinner, book a maxi cab for a set time.

Bankstown Sports Club

At 8 Greenfield Parade, with restaurants, shows and functions. Book the ride home when you arrive and give us the finish time.

Bankstown Airport is not Sydney Airport

It sounds obvious, but it catches people out. Bankstown Airport is a general aviation airport about 17 km west of Mascot, with three parallel runways, a small passenger terminal and a business park full of aviation companies. Flying schools, helicopter operators, charter and private flights and aeromedical services all work from here. Most airline flights do not.

If you are booked on a charter, a scenic flight or a lesson, tell us that it is Bankstown. The address is 3 Avro Street, and arriving passengers can be collected from the terminal.

Heading to Mascot instead? That is 25 to 35 minutes by road, and the next section is for you.

The right car for the job

Maxi cabs for families and teams, baby seats for little ones, and a wheelchair accessible vehicle for passengers who travel in their chair. Book that one ahead.

Bankstown to Sydney Airport

Close to Mascot, as long as the M5 behaves

Bankstown is one of the closer western suburbs to the terminals. Off-peak, it is 25 to 35 minutes. Weekday mornings heading east and afternoons coming back can add a lot, so for an international flight we would still leave three hours before departure.

Landing at Mascot? Put the flight number in your booking and we time the pickup to the actual arrival, not the schedule. More on the Sydney Airport taxi page.

A simple timing guide

  • InternationalLeave Bankstown about three hours before departure.
  • DomesticTwo hours is usually enough outside the peaks.
  • ArrivalsBook with your flight number and we watch the landing time.
