A village high street with a hospital and a racecourse attached

Six kilometres south-east of the city, and busier than its size suggests.

Randwick's old centre is Belmore Road and Avoca Street, lined with shops, cafes and sandstone buildings. Around it sit three places that bring in people from all over Sydney: the Randwick hospitals campus, the UNSW Kensington campus across High Street, and Royal Randwick Racecourse filling the north-west corner. Most of our Randwick trips start or finish at one of them.

The L2 light rail ends at Randwick on High Street and suits plenty of journeys. It doesn't suit a patient with a walking frame, a family bringing a newborn home, or four friends in heels leaving the track. That is where a cab in Randwick comes in. Sedans and SUVs carry up to four, and a maxi taxi in Randwick takes up to 7 or 11.

Quotes are fixed before you travel, with tolls and GST included and no surge pricing on race days. Pay by card, Cabcharge, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash. Our Randwick taxi number is 02 7265 1227, day or night.

Randwick's big three

Getting the pickup right at the hospitals, UNSW and the track

Each of these is a campus with several entrances. Naming the right one is the difference between a smooth pickup and a driver circling.

Randwick hospitals campus

Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital, the Royal Hospital for Women and Prince of Wales Private share the block between Barker Street, Avoca Street and High Street.

  • Acute Services Building: main entrance at 77 Botany Street, opposite UNSW
  • Emergency drop-off: off Magill Street, reached from Botany Street
  • Barker Street entrance: car park, pharmacy and the Royal Hospital for Women side
  • Sydney Children's Hospital: the High Street entrance

UNSW Kensington campus

The university stretches from High Street down to Anzac Parade. Students moving into college, visiting academics and conference guests are typical pickups here.

  • High Street side: near the UNSW High Street light rail stop, between Wansey Road and Botany Street
  • Anzac Parade side: by the UNSW Anzac Parade stop on the L3 line
  • Give us the building or gate number from your timetable

Royal Randwick Racecourse

The track hosts The Everest in October and The Championships in April, and on those days Alison Road is solid with people.

  • Main entrance and bus terminal on Alison Road
  • Royal Randwick light rail stop is about a five minute walk away

Maxi cabs, baby seats and wheelchair access in Randwick

Families leaving the Royal Hospital for Women or Sydney Children's Hospital often need a baby seat, so ask when you book. Our wheelchair accessible vehicle needs to be booked ahead, which is worth doing before a planned discharge.

Randwick to Sydney Airport

A short run, as long as you avoid 5pm

A Randwick to Sydney Airport taxi usually takes 20 to 30 minutes off-peak, heading down Anzac Parade and across Gardeners Road or via Southern Cross Drive. Weekday afternoons and the traffic around the airport can add a lot, so give yourself a margin.

It is a route that suits visiting academics, conference guests and families flying in for treatment at the hospitals. Book a pickup with your flight number and we time it to your landing. More on our Sydney Airport transfers page.
