Booking a taxi in Dee Why

More people live in Dee Why than in any other suburb on the Northern Beaches, and most of them live in apartments. That changes how a pickup works. Here is what we deal with every week.

Built up, beachside and one main road

Almost everything in Dee Why sits either side of Pittwater Road, with the council chambers, Dee Why Grand and the RSL along it and the side streets running down to the beach. Bus lanes take the kerb for long stretches, so a driver cannot simply stop wherever you are standing. We pick a side street such as Howard Avenue, Oaks Avenue or Dee Why Parade and tell you when we confirm.

Most of our Dee Why work is apartment pickups, dinner on The Strand, school and hospital runs, and early flights. Sedans and SUVs take up to four people. For a bigger group or a family with a week of bags, book a maxi taxi for up to 7 or 11.

Unit blocks and basements

Put your building name, entrance and any intercom code in the booking notes. If the lobby opens onto a lane rather than the street, say so.

One price, any hour

The quote includes tolls and GST, with no surge on a hot Saturday. Pay by card, Cabcharge, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash.

Pets, prams and parcels

A dog heading to the vet, a pram and a toddler off to the beach, or a parcel that has to reach an office in the city. Tell us when you book and we send the right car.

Meeting points

Where a driver can actually pull in

  1. The Strand and the beachfront

Cafes, bars and the surf club all face the sand along The Strand, and on a warm evening every park is taken. Tell us the venue name and we will meet you out the front or on the nearest corner, whichever is clear.

  2. Howard Avenue, near the B-Line stop

The B-Line stops at the Pittwater Road corner, so the kerb there belongs to buses. We wait a little way up Howard Avenue instead, which suits people coming out of the Coles on Howard Avenue and Dee Why Parade.

  3. Dee Why Grand and Dee Why RSL

Both are on Pittwater Road, the RSL at number 932. After a late dinner or a show, book a return time or call when you are leaving and we will agree which side of the road to meet on.

  4. Fisher Road schools and the upper streets

Dee Why Public School sits on Fisher Road and St Luke's Grammar is up on Headland Road, so school hours are slow. Give us the gate you use and we plan around the drop-off traffic.

  5. Long Reef and the lagoon end

Long Reef is just over the lagoon entrance in Collaroy. Walkers finishing on the headland can call as they come down and we will agree a meeting point off Pittwater Road.

Walk one way, ride back

Headland to headland, with a car at the finish

The Bicentennial Coastal Walk comes up from North Curl Curl, runs along the cliffs of Dee Why Head and drops down to the southern end of the beach. Keep going north past the surf club and you reach the lagoon entrance, then Long Reef Beach and the grassy headland with its view back over Dee Why.

Plenty of people do it one way and do not fancy the return leg with tired kids or sore knees. Book a pickup for the far end and we collect you, which also suits a morning at Stony Range Botanic Garden, just south of the town centre.

Dee Why Lagoon is a wildlife refuge, reached on foot from Dee Why Parade and The Strand, so those two streets are the easiest places to meet at that end.

  • Collection times agreed before you start walking
  • Room for beach bags, boards and a folded pram
  • Call from the car park if you finish early

Maxi cabs, baby seats and wheelchair access in Dee Why

Young families fill a lot of the units here, so child seats are one of our most common requests. We fit capsules, seats and boosters on request, and a wheelchair accessible vehicle is available if you book ahead.

Dee Why to Sydney Airport

Allow 50 to 65 minutes off-peak. Weekday mornings are another matter: traffic banks up on Pittwater Road through Brookvale, then again at the Spit and on Military Road. For a morning international departure we usually suggest leaving Dee Why a good three hours before the flight.

Flying home? Add the flight number and we time the pickup to your actual landing, not the schedule. Terminal details are on our Sydney Airport taxi page.
