Taxi Marrickville: 24/7 Cabs and Maxi Taxis

Marrickville is one of the closest suburbs to Sydney Airport, and some days it feels it, with the planes low overhead. We run cabs from its main streets, markets and warehouse bars to the terminals, the city and home again.

Two shopping strips, a river and a lot of side streets

Most of Marrickville's life runs along two roads. Marrickville Road carries the main strip from the Sydenham end up to the Town Hall, and Illawarra Road runs north to south past the station, lined with bakeries, grocers and pho shops. Between and around them is a grid of small houses and old factories that stretches down to the Cooks River.

We pick up all over it: families off Livingstone Road, renters in the flats near Dulwich Hill, people coming out of the library with an armful of books, and staff finishing late shifts in the light industrial streets. Sedans and SUVs carry up to four. A maxi taxi in Marrickville takes 7 or 11, which is how brewery birthday groups tend to get home in one piece.

Fixed quotes, with or without the tunnel

Every Marrickville cab booking comes with a fixed quote that already includes tolls and GST, so it doesn't matter whether the quickest way is the WestConnex tunnel from St Peters or the surface roads through Tempe. Pay by card, Cabcharge, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash. Pets and parcels are fine too. See our pet friendly taxi page if the dog is coming.

Our Marrickville taxi number is 02 7265 1227, answered around the clock.

The Marrickville weekend

Markets, breweries and footy at Henson Park

Weekends are our busiest time in the suburb. The same few places come up again and again, and each one has its own trick to a smooth pickup.

Sunday morning

Addison Road markets

The organic food and farmers market fills the grounds of the Addison Road Community Centre at 142 Addison Road every Sunday from 9am. Heavy with produce? We collect from the Addison Road frontage.

Saturday afternoon

Brewery crawls

Marrickville's breweries are tucked into light industrial streets, often sharing a block with workshops and warehouses. Give us the venue name as well as the street and the driver pulls up at the right door.

Game day

Newtown Jets at Henson Park

The Jets' home ground has gates on Centennial Street and Sydenham Road, with houses packed in around it. On a big afternoon, walk a block clear of the gates and meet the car there rather than at the turnstiles.

Meeting spots we know well

Marrickville Metro, 20 Smidmore Street

The shopping centre was built on the site of the old Vicars woollen mill and has more than one face. The rooftop car park is reached from Murray and Smidmore Streets, and the newer side from Edinburgh Road. Tell us which side you will walk out of.

Marrickville station, Illawarra Road

The station sits on Illawarra Road where it crosses the railway. Tell us which side of the line you will be standing on and the driver stops there, clear of the bus stop.

Marrickville Library

Opened in 2019 on the old Marrickville Hospital site, off Marrickville Road. Good for a pickup after a class or a study session; say which entrance you will use.

Dulwich Hill and Sydenham edges

The L1 light rail ends at Dulwich Hill, and Sydenham station is just over the border to the south-east. If you are changing from either, name the stop and we pick the nearest safe spot on the street.

Maxi cabs, baby seats and wheelchair access in Marrickville

Say what you need when you book; the wheelchair accessible vehicle is best booked ahead.

Marrickville to Sydney Airport

You can almost see the runway from here

Marrickville sits under the flight path, and by road the terminals are usually 15 to 25 minutes away off-peak. That short distance makes it easy to cut things fine. Weekday afternoons on the Princes Highway through Tempe, and the queue into the domestic terminals, can double the time.

For a domestic flight we suggest leaving Marrickville around 90 minutes to two hours before departure, and three hours for international. On the way home, add your flight number when you book a pickup and we track the landing. Details are on our Marrickville to Sydney Airport taxi page.

Early flight tip: order the cab the night before. A 5am pickup in Marrickville is quick on the road, but it still needs a car booked for you.

Marrickville cab questions

Short answers to what people ask us on the phone.

Usually 15 to 25 minutes off-peak to the domestic or international terminals. It is a short run, but the Princes Highway and airport roads get congested on weekday afternoons, so leave a margin.
