Mostly apartments, so tell us the entrance
At the 2021 census, about seven in ten Ashfield homes were flats or units. A building name, a unit number and which street the lobby faces saves a lot of phone calls from the kerb.
Ashfield sits 8 kilometres west of the CBD in the Inner West Council area. The station is on Brown Street, with T2 and T3 trains. South of it, Liverpool Road carries the main shops and Ashfield Mall; north of it, Charlotte Street and Elizabeth Street have more. Parramatta Road runs along the northern edge, past Ashfield Park and the old Peek Freans biscuit factory tower.
Our Ashfield passengers are a real mix: patients going home from Sydney Private Hospital, members leaving Wests Ashfield Leagues on Liverpool Road, swimmers from the aquatic centre, and plenty of people who just want to reach the airport without dragging a suitcase onto a train.
Sedans and SUVs take up to four. A maxi cab seats 7 or 11, our wheelchair accessible vehicle can be booked ahead, and pets travel with you when you mention them. Fares are quoted upfront with tolls and GST in, and there is no surge pricing.
Little Shanghai
Dumplings,
then home.
Liverpool Road, Ashfield. Book the ride before the pan-fried buns arrive.
Liverpool Road after dark
The stretch of Liverpool Road near the station has been called Little Shanghai for years, thanks to a run of Shanghainese restaurants serving soup dumplings, pan-fried pork buns and shallot pancakes. One of Sydney's best-known dumpling chains started on this strip before spreading across the city.
It is cheap, quick and good for groups, which means big tables and a lot of people leaving at once. Liverpool Road is a busy main road with little room to pull over outside the restaurants. We usually meet diners on a side street such as Holden Street, a short walk away.
- Call when the bill comes and we time the car
- A maxi cab takes a table of up to 11
- No higher fares for late finishes

Where we meet Ashfield passengers

Ashfield station
Brown Street. The station has a taxi rank, a kiss and ride area and a commuter car park, and it is staffed 24 hours.
Ashfield Mall
260A Liverpool Road. The mall's taxi rank is on the Level 5 car park near the travelator lobby. Car park entries are on Knox Street, Norton Street and, for the rooftop, Norton and Holden Streets.
Wests Ashfield Leagues
115 Liverpool Road. Tell us a finish time and we will be out the front.
Ashfield Park
More than six hectares on Parramatta Road, with the Mary Poppins statue that honours P. L. Travers, who once lived in Ashfield. Parramatta Road is fast here, so we suggest a side street pickup.
Ashfield Aquatic Centre
160 Elizabeth Street, on the Frederick Street corner. Rebuilt and reopened in October 2020, with a heated 50 metre outdoor pool.
Sydney Private Hospital
On the corner of Victoria and Robert Streets. For a discharge day, book once you know the time and we will come to the front entrance.
Maxi cabs, baby seats and wheelchair access in Ashfield
All available on request. Tell us who is travelling and what they need when you call.
Ashfield to Sydney Airport
Twenty minutes on a good day
Ashfield is one of the closer suburbs to Mascot. Off-peak the trip is 20 to 30 minutes, either through the WestConnex tunnels from Haberfield or on surface roads through Marrickville, whichever is moving better at the time.
Weekday peaks can add a lot, so for international flights we still suggest leaving about three hours ahead. For arrivals, give us your flight number and the pickup is timed to your landing. More on our Sydney Airport transfers page.
