Surf on one side, a sheltered bay on the other, and one road in

Cronulla sits on a narrow peninsula about 26 km south of the city. Bate Bay and the surf beaches run down the eastern side, from Wanda and Elouera to North Cronulla and Cronulla Beach. The western side faces Gunnamatta Bay, calm water with a netted pool, moorings and the ferry wharf. The Kingsway is the main way in and out, and on summer weekends it shows.

A lot of Cronulla lives in apartments, and a lot of visitors arrive by train, so there are fewer spare cars than you might think. We pick up holiday-makers at the end of their stay, families with a baby seat booked for the beach, and groups in a maxi taxi with 7 or 11 seats after a long lunch. Sedans and SUVs cover up to four people, and dogs are welcome on a pet-friendly booking.

Tell us where you are and where you're going, and we give you the fare before the car moves. Call 02 7265 1227 any time.

A day of Cronulla bookings

From first flight to last drinks

Cronulla's taxi work changes with the hour. This is roughly how a full day goes.

  1. Before sunrise

    Airport runs from the peninsula

Early departures from the flats along the Esplanade and around Gerrale Street. Cronulla is the last stop on the line, so a train to the airport is a slow way to start a holiday. By road it is 35 to 45 minutes off-peak.

  2. Morning

    Ferry passengers and walkers

The Bundeena ferry leaves from the wharf on Gunnamatta Bay beside Tonkin Park, about half an hour across Port Hacking. Coast Track walkers with packs get dropped here for the boat. Others want the northern end of the Esplanade walk at Wanda, so they can stroll south to Shelly Park and Bass and Flinders Point.

Green and yellow timber ferry arriving at Bundeena beach, with houses and bush behind
  3. Daytime

    Appointments, shopping and the beach

Trips out to Sutherland Hospital in Caringbah and back, shopping bags from the Cronulla Street mall, and parents with prams heading for the Gunnamatta Park baths, where the water is protected and a lot calmer than the surf beaches.

  4. Evening

Dinner, the RSL and game nights

Tables along Gerrale Street, functions at Cronulla RSL at number 38, and Sharks home games at Endeavour Field on Captain Cook Drive in Woolooware, a short drive back up the Kingsway.

  5. Late night

    Home from Northies and beyond

Northies, on the corner of the Kingsway and Elouera Road, empties late. So do the bars near the station. Ride home to Miranda, Menai or Engadine at the same fixed quote you'd get at lunchtime, with no surge pricing.

Where to wait for your cab

Beachfront reserves, a pedestrian mall and a ferry wharf down a slope: Cronulla has plenty of spots a car can't reach. These are the meeting points that work.

Cronulla station, Cronulla Street
The end of the line, with its heritage-listed platforms laid end to end. Part of Cronulla Street is a pedestrian mall, so tell us which cross street you'll walk to.
Gunnamatta Bay ferry wharf
Beside Tonkin Park. Give us the ferry you're catching or coming back on, and allow for bags and prams.
North Cronulla and Northies
Elouera Road at the Kingsway is the usual meeting corner for the beach and the hotel.
Shelly Park and the Esplanade
If you finish the walk at the southern end, tell us if you're nearer Shelly Park or Oak Park and we'll suggest the closest street.

Cronulla to Sydney Airport

Getting off the peninsula in good time

The run to the airport takes 35 to 45 minutes off-peak, heading out along the Kingsway, up Taren Point Road and over the Captain Cook Bridge. The slow part is often the first few kilometres, before you're even out of Cronulla, so we set pickup times with that in mind.

Flying home? Ask for a fixed Sydney Airport to Cronulla fare when you book and include your flight number, so the driver follows your arrival time. See the Sydney Airport taxi page for how terminal pickups work.

  • Collected from your building, not a taxi rank
  • Maxi cabs when the family and the luggage won't fit a sedan
  • Card, Cabcharge, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash

It depends on the time, the number of passengers and the vehicle, so we quote each trip. Call with your flight details and you get a fixed fare, with tolls and GST included, before you confirm.
