Maxi Taxi Seats and Luggage: A Sydney Group Travel Guide

Silver Sydney Taxi 11 seat maxi cab parked kerbside

Once a group grows past four people, the maths of a normal taxi stops working. The usual next question is whether a single maxi cab actually fits everyone and their bags, or whether it is safer to just book two cars. Here is how the two maxi sizes compare, so you can book the right one the first time.

Two maxi sizes, two different jobs

We run two maxi cab sizes. The 7 seat maxi suits a family or small group with a normal amount of luggage, such as one suitcase and a carry-on bag per person. The 11 seat maxi is built for larger groups, sports teams or a wedding party travelling together, and carries more passengers and more luggage than the 7 seater.

How much luggage actually fits

Luggage space is where two sedans and one maxi cab really part ways. A maxi cab is built with a full group's bags in mind, not just the seats. If your group is travelling with anything beyond standard suitcases, sports equipment, musical instruments or boxes, mention it when you book so we send a vehicle with enough room, rather than finding out at the kerb that something will not fit.

When one maxi beats two sedans

  • Everyone arrives together, at the same time, at the same door.
  • One upfront quote instead of two separate fares to track.
  • One booking to manage, rather than coordinating pickup times across two cars.
  • No splitting a group up over who rides with whom.

Two sedans can still make sense for a small group that genuinely wants to travel separately, but for most groups of five or more, one maxi cab is the simpler option.

Booking a maxi for an airport run

Group airport transfers are one of the most common reasons people book a maxi cab. We track your flight and time the pickup to your actual arrival, so a group is not standing around the terminal waiting for a car. Read more on our Sydney Airport transfer page.

Extras you can add

A maxi cab can still carry a baby seat on request, the same as our sedans and SUVs. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, ask about our wheelchair accessible vehicle when you book. Pets and parcels are welcome too, just mention them so we can plan the space.

Book ahead for group travel

We take bookings online or by phone, for today or weeks ahead. For group travel, booking early matters even more, since the right vehicle needs to be available and confirmed before the day. See our maxi taxi service page or check the fleet for exact seat numbers before you book.
